A Few of My Favorite Fonts for Clean, Modern Website Design

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that fonts can completely change the feel of a website. You can have a simple layout with minimal graphics, but if you pair it with the right typography, the entire design suddenly feels polished and professional.

On the flip side, the wrong font can make an otherwise great website feel outdated or unprofessional.

These are a few of my favorite fonts that I find myself coming back to again and again.

TT Commons Pro

TT Commons Pro has become one of my favorite fonts for modern business websites. It’s clean, professional, and incredibly versatile. It feels contemporary without trying too hard and works well for almost any industry.

I especially like using it for technology companies, marketing agencies, professional services, and businesses that want a clean, premium look.

Manrope

Manrope is another font I use quite a bit. One little trick I like is applying a slight negative letter spacing. It pulls the letters a little closer together and gives headings a cleaner, more refined appearance.

I think Manrope works especially well for startups, software companies, and brands that want a modern, minimalist aesthetic. It has a lot of personality while still being very easy to read.

Neuzeit Grotesk

This is actually the font we use on the GreyDot Marketing website.

Neuzeit Grotesk has a timeless look that feels both modern and professional. It isn’t overly trendy, which is one of the reasons I like it so much. It has enough character to stand out without becoming distracting.

It’s a great choice for businesses that want to build trust while maintaining a clean, approachable brand.

Aileron

Aileron is one of those fonts that doesn’t get talked about enough. I especially like the thinner font weights because they give websites a very clean and elegant feel.

I don’t use the thin version for everything, but it works beautifully for larger headlines and hero sections. When paired with a slightly bolder body font, it creates a really nice contrast.

Choosing the Right Font Matters

There isn’t one “perfect” font; every project is different. A law firm probably shouldn’t use the same typography as a trendy coffee shop. Likewise, a modern SaaS company will usually need a completely different style than a luxury home builder.

The font should match the personality of the brand. It should support the design, not compete with it.
